Hi, I enjoyed your talk about the different drugs available and feel more knowledgeable to help clients talk to their vets about possible options to help them.
Do you know of any research for using CBD with dogs that have anxiety issues?
Do you know of any CBD products for dogs that you would recommend?
For my clients I always try to use a more natural approach with over the counter products before sending them to the vet for drugs. Of course, the dog is seen by the vet to rule out any possible physical or medical issues that could cause behavior issues.
Unfortunately, in my area there's is not enough vet behavoirists and most clients have to wait months to see them because they are booked with cases.
I'm finding out that a lot of the local area vets are not experiened enough to handle the behavoir cases that I send them. They end up drugging the dog, where the dog is not themselves and makes it difficult to work with the dogs that are on behavoir meds.
Clients reach out to me for help and are upset because their dog is almost sedated all the time. And this is after the client has already argued with the vet, and the vet seems to be fine with the dog being sedated. Sadly this seems to happen more often lately.
I would love hear more about the over the counter meds that you like and that have worked for some cases, as I want to help my clients while they are on the waitlist to see a vet behavoirist for more extreme cases.
Unfortunately, with the inexperiened vets or vets that don't want to help with behavior, it has become more of an issue for my clients. It has become up to me to help my clients find some sort of relief for their dog before they can't live with the dog anymore. I would like to have more tools and options to help my clients as much as possable.
Thank you for any advice or recommendations!
